The new WBO Welterweight champion is Manny Pacquiao, with a 12th-round stoppage in their bout Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
One thing I like about Cotto is that he has been very silent even during interviews. He has shown sportsmanship when he immediately approached Pacquiao right after the declaration. He hugged Pacman while blood was dripping down his face. I could feel the pain in the family of Cotto seeing him accepting the painful punches. Cotto’s wife and kids were crying in the audience area that they had to leave after round 10. Sad to say that Cotto’s face is a strong proof of Pacman’s victory. The whole Philippines is celebrating and Pinoys around the globe. It was not an easy fight with Pacman too, reaching the 12th round was also tiring and painful. The prayerful fighter knelt down thanking God for his victory, which is the usual scene every after his fight.
Cotto was knocked down twice in the first few rounds although at the very first Cotto owned the ring which occasionally was kept in the fight. Cotto has been asked several times from round 9 if he still wanted to go on with the fight until the referee took the act of stopping Cotto on round 12.
