Forgive Tiger and Move On!

We can see the sincerity of how sorry Tiger Woods was when he said “sorry” to his family and friends on Friday, February 19 at the clubhouse of TPC Sawgrass, home of the US PGA Tour. It was an emotional Tiger Woods standing in front of about 40 people , including his mother, Kultilda. His wife, Elin, unfortunately was not in the scene when he spoke his apologies. In a harshly honest self-assessment broadcast live around the world on Friday, the Golf Champion admitted to a string of infidelities and confirmed he had been undergoing treatment in a rehabilitation center for 45 days as an in-patient. He apologized for his irresponsible and selfish behavior as he broke his self-imposed silence on the sex scandal that engulfed him last year. Tiger said he did not know when he would return to golf, but didn’t rule out that it would be this year, in an emotion filled nationally televised address where he repeatedly apologized to his family and his fans. The 14-time major champion had not spoken in public since a mysterious car crash on November 27 triggered revelations about marital infidelity.
Here’s Tiger Wood’s statement in front of his hand-picked audience of friends and journalists at the USPGA Tour Headquarters in Florida: “I want to say to each of you simply and directly: I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in,” “I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable, and I am the only person to blame,” a humbled Woods said, at times staring directly into the camera during his blunt admissions of wrongdoing and apology to his fans and associates. “For all that I have done, I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for.” It was reported that more than a dozen women were linked to the billionaire sports star in the weeks following the car crash. He continues, “It’s hard to admit that I need help, but I do,” Woods said. “For 45 days from the end of December to early February I was in in-patient therapy receiving guidance for the issues I’m facing,” Woods said. “I have a long way to go. But I’ve taken my first steps in the right direction. I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in. I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn’t apply. I was wrong, I was foolish. I don’t get to play by different rules.” “It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that,” said Woods. “Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever. Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal.” Tiger was referring to scotch reports that his wife Elin physically attacked him during the incident on November 27 which triggered the scandal.
If I am to asses why Tiger Woods made such a public apologetic statement, it could have helped him cope up with everything that had happened to him and could be a part of his self prescribed therapy. We just hope Tiger Woods could win back his self esteem and soon could get back to his winnings in the field of his profession. Good luck, Tiger.
