In as much as we would like see a Pacquiao – Mayweather duel, a Khan – Mayweather fight might seem more viable.

After Khan knocked out Zab Judah with a bodyshot in the fifth round last Saturday, successfully defending his WBA super lightweight crown and adding the IBF junior welterweight belt, Amir Khan unlocked the door to more big fights including the much anticipated Khan – Mayweather bout which is already being discussed behind the scenes. Speculations also suggest that the fight might take place in London around 2012 Olympic games.

Amir Khan's controversial winning shot on Zab Judah.
“I know my time will come with Mayweather,” said Khan. “It doesn’t matter if Manny Pacquiao gets to Mayweather before me, either. My time will come. My big fights and pay days will come up in the future, but right now, I just have to keep winning.” Khan said. He also once said “My aim is to move up the pound-for-pound rankings and to one day be pound-for-pound champion. I want to be the best fighter in the world,” He added. A victory over Mayweather will seal Khan’s pound-for-pound ranking on top.

“I do believe Amir’s speed can trouble Mayweather, but Mayweather is a very good boxer and is very slick,” Coach Freddie Roach said. Roach also says that Khan will need more preparation before facing the defensive wizard.

Khan also humbly admitted that he has more to achieve before he can unseat Pacquiao. Roach also confirmed that Khan will fight again in December 2011 before a possible fight against Mayweather next year.

Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to go up against Juan Manuel Marquez this coming November, while his closest pound-for-pound rival, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be pitting against Victor Ortiz in September. Sports Illustrated.com’s Chris Mannix suggested that these two matches are perfect set-ups for a Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown next year.

“It sets up a May 2012 collision between two of boxing’s best,” Mannix said in his article.

“These two have done this dance with each other for years but several industry insiders believe this is how it is being set up,” Mannix added.

Mannix was referring to the endless series of negotiations between both camps.

For the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight to remain interesting to fight fans, both boxers must post impressive victories over their respective opponents.

“Both have to win. A Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown loses a large chunk of its appeal if either fighter takes a loss this year,” said Mannix.

Mannix said Marquez will still be a tough opponent for Pacquiao. while Mayweather faces a similar challenge in fighting a younger southpaw opponent in Ortiz. “Marquez is a nightmare matchup for Pacquiao, having fought him to a draw and a narrow decision loss in their previous two meetings,” he said.

“If Ortiz connects on the kind of shot Shane Mosley did in the second round of his fight with Mayweather last May, he has the power to close the show,” added Mannix.

Should Pacquiao and Mayweather wins, chances of their superfight to materialize next year looks promising specially where Schaefer and Arum back in the board room to negotiate.

The fight the world has been waiting for appears ripe for the picking right now, especially with the way the two fighters disposed their respective opponents in their last outing.

Manny Pacquiao proved too classy against an outmatched Joshua Clottey during their March 13 World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title bout at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, which the Filipino southpaw won by a unanimous decision.

The mega bout of Pacquiao against the controversial boxer, Floyd Mayweather is being eyed in November. Promoter, Bob Arum wants the fight to happen late this year, or sometime in November.

Arum said, “A good time for that fight would be November. That would be a perfect time.” If ever the two parties come to the table again and start negotiating, Arum hopes it would be a private matter. We just need to wait and see who the best boxer is when the two match in the ring soon.

Long before the accusation of the Mayweathers to Pacquiao, that apparently, Manny uses steroids, Mayweather has been known using an illegal drug called, XYLOCAINE. This is now the talk of the town. There is this article written and posted on the net on April 21, 2002, by Sharkie’s Machine, entitled, “Why Bother Fighting the Fights? Just ask the judges…” XYLOCAINE IS KNOWN AS A DRUG BANNED IN THE OLYMPICS.

If this is true, surprisingly, and ironically, it was Floyd Mayweather, Jr. who has been known using the illegal drug and not Manny.

Highlighted from the said post, it reads, “Before the fight began, HBO’s Jim Lampley and George Foreman discussed hand injuries with references to Floyd’s recent hand problems. They said that Mayweather has been known to use hand-injected painkillers like Xylocaine, which is illegal in some states. Such painkillers could be more dangerous in the long term, since fighters with numbed hands hit harder since they cannot feel their hands at a time when they could be unknowingly damaging them..”

Another related article is written last January 7, 2010 by Examiner.com that reads, “It has come to light today that Floyd Mayweather has used injectable pain killers such as Xylocaine in the past before fights. The irony being that this drug is illegal in nearly all states, with one notable exception, Nevada…After all the negotiating trouble and accusations about Manny Pacquiao and his supposed steroid use, it appears Mayweather is the one taking widely banned substances.”

The whole world is waiting for the match that could generate more than $100 million in revenues and break all existing records in pay-per-view sales, ticket sales, closed-circuit sales, merchandise, among others.

As it is, the weight issue, the venue and the purse have all been resolved, and it’s just the procedure on how the drug testing would go that’s taking all the time.

“Neither side is insisting on pre-conditions, and both sides will present their positions in an effort to resolve the dispute,” retired Judge Daniel Weinstein, tapped to mediate and stand in between both parties, said in a statement printed by The Los Angeles Times yesterday.

And Weinstein, Lance Pugmire wrote, is “satisfied all parties are negotiating in good faith.” Weinstein is a master mediator, and finding a solution to the impasse that has threatened to derail what is being billed as the biggest fight of the new century will be his only objective.

He is set to meet Top Rank’s Bob Arum and Todd duBeof, for Pacquiao, and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe and Golden Boy’s Richard Schaefer, for the American fighter, at his Santa Monica office today.

“I have been asked by representatives of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather to mediate certain disputes that have arisen in connection with the negotiation of a bout between the two fighters,” Weinstein said in a statement.

Weinstein, once voted as the most popular mediator in the Bay Area, said both sides are working on a gag order which they also imposed among themselves when they started negotiating the fight.

Once the meeting is over, Arum and Schaefer could either announce that the fight is officially on or off or that they would need a little more time to get things done.

Manny Pacuiao’s character has been questioned, maligned, damaged and tarnished by baseless and false accusations. Pound-for-pound boxing king Manny Pacquiao and promoter Top Rank Inc. announced on December 25, Chriustmas day, the filing of a lawsuit within the next few days against the Mayweathers, Floyd Sr. and Jr., et al, and Golden Boy Promotions. True enough because on December 31, the charges were filed in Nevada court against the people involved.
“Enough is enough. These people, Mayweather Sr., Jr., and Golden Boy Promotions, think it is a joke and a right to accuse someone wrongly of using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy but I think they have gone overboard,” said Pacquiao in Tagalog while celebrating Christmas with his family.

Libel, slander and defamation suits were charged against the accused to once and for all clear out Pacquiao’s good name and character.

Before Pacman filed the suit, Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions came out with a press release threatening to put a stop to the projected biggest fight in boxing history between the two top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, by asking too many unrealistic and unprecedented items on the bargaining table, including that of an Olympic-style drug testing.

“I maintain and assure everyone that I have not used any form or kind of steroids and that my way to the top is a result of hard work, hard work, hard work and a lot of blood spilled from my past battles in the ring, not outside of it,” added the Filipino champion who just turned 31 a week ago. “I have no idea what steroids look like and my fear in God has kept me safe and victorious through all these years.”

“Now, I say to Floyd Mayweather Jr., don’t be a coward and face me in the ring, mano-a-mano and shut your big, pretty mouth, so we can show the world who is the true king of the ring,” said Pacquiao, who has been contemplating on filing a case against Mayweather Sr. even before the start of his Nov. 14 fight with Miguel Angel Cotto. “I did not sue because I did not want to get distracted during that time because I was preparing for one of the toughest fights in my career.”

“Pretty Boy Floyd, face me instead on March 13 in Las Vegas and not in some talk show forum or in press releases written for you by people who don’t even know me. Face me in a fight where I get to punch back. You and your cohorts have accused me of using performance-enhancing drugs. Now, I say, the burden of proof should now come from you, not me,” said Pacquiao, the only seven-time, seven-weight division champion in the history of the sport.

Pacquiao said he is not against any form of drug testing mandated by any state athletic sports commission whenever, wherever he fights. He just finds it funny and stupid to change a system that has been set for decades now. Pacquiao undergoes drug testing and other medical examinations before and after every fight over the past 15 years and has never failed any of these tests.

“These people think they are doing the sport a great service. They are not,” added Pacquiao. “To Floyd, despite all these accusations, may your Christmas be merry and I will see you in court, soon, too.”

Pacman’s article reads (source: philboxing.xom)

Very well said Pacman!
